“Nearly 20 years ago, StarCraft welcomed millions of gamers to an epic sci-fi universe - and also helped form the foundation for esports as we know it today,” Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said in the obligatory press release statement. Pre-orders have started, and dropping your cash early will get you a few extra building skins for your base. For you purists, you can shift between original and remastered mode on the fly. There is also cloud save support for replays. The remaster, announced back in March, brings the original game and the Brood War expansion up to 4K graphics standards on PC, while adding upgraded music, matchmaking and leaderboards, and player profiles to keep up with how well you are doing. The company has announced the game will be available on August 14, with the price of reminiscing set at a rather paultry $14.99. Those who did not find a position were eventually let go, while others chose to leave for independent studios like Frost Giant Inc., and DreamHaven Inc., the latter of which was started by Blizzard co-founder and former CEO Mike Morhaime. As StarCraft 2 plods on as an eSports sensation, Blizzard's pass at nostalgia in StarCraft: Remastered is almost complete. In October 2020, Blizzard reorganized the entire division known as Team 1 and members of the team were given opportunities to interview for other positions within the company. Vicarious Visions is also said to be working on this project, which is or was known as Diablo II: Resurrected. Blizzard and Team 1 obviously didn't want to make the same mistakes with the much-anticipated Diablo 2 remaster, and following a "postmortem," Blizzard ended up pulling the remaster from the team and putting the division behind Diablo IV in charge. Internal documents reviewed by Bloomberg pin the game's failures on "poor planning, miscommunication and a rushed release due to financial pressure from management, among other factors." One example given was that, following the game's reveal in November 2018, it began taking pre-orders for 2019 before letting most of the development team know of the release window.
